Snapping the four-day upward march, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex fell over 34 points or 0.19 per cent in opening trade on Thursday on profit booking at higher levels amid weak global cues.
The 30-share index, which had gained over 441 points in the last four sessions, lost 34.28 points or 0.19 per cent to 17,935.74 in opening trade on Thursday.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty also declined by 16.10 points or 0.29 per cent to 5,358.55.
Brokers said weakness in the U.S. markets and subdued opening of the Asian bourses triggered selling by foreign funds.
