The rupee turned weak on Wednesday by 13 paise to 63.28 against the U.S. dollar in early trade at the Interbank Foreign Exchange due to month-end demand for the American currency from importers.
Forex dealers said besides month-end demand for the U.S. dollar, a lower opening in the domestic equity market weighed on the rupee.
They said, however, dollar’s weakness against other currencies overseas on weaker U.S. data capped the rupee’s fall.
The rupee had gained 33 paise to close at 63.15 against the American currency in Tuesday’s trade on persistent selling of dollars by banks and exporters.
