Maruti to roll out new WagonR soon

Maruti Suzuki on Saturday said it would roll out “brand new” WagonR by this month-end on which India's largest carmaker has invested over Rs. 290 crore.

“Developed in an all-new platform, WagonR now comes with new fuel-efficient and powerful K series engine and new transmission.

The hatchback is India's No.2 selling car only after Alto and we hope to retain this leadership position with new WagonR,” Maruti Suzuki India Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Mayank Pareek told journalists here.

“We have invested over Rs. 250 crore on the entire project, which excludes money spent by our vendors on upgrading their facilities for the hatchback. It is a full model change that retains the DNA of the original WagonR, which has so far sold over 8.5-lakh units since 1999 when it was first launched,” he said. Apart from new bold styling, the BS-IV emission norms compliant car comes with upgraded interiors and new innovative features for improved convenience and driving comfort.

According to Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) standards, the car, which delivers 68 PS power, will give a mileage of 18.9 km a litre. Mr. Pareek, however, said the company had stopped producing petrol/LPG variant ‘Duo' of WagonR.
