Vishwanathan is RBI Deputy Governor

The selection of N.S. Vishwanathan as the new Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India was on Tuesday approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

Mr. Vishwanathan, whose term will be for three years, will succeed H.R. Khan who retires this week.

Mr. Vishwanathan has so far held the post of executive director in the RBI since April 2014 and currently oversees banking and non-banking regulation departments. A search panel headed by Cabinet Secretary P.K. Sinha, and including RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan, was in charge of selecting the Deputy Governor. Mr. Khan is due to retire on July 4.
