IT major Infosys has confirmed that one of its employees is among the hostages at the Lindt Café in Sydney.

The Indian national has been identified as Viswakanth Ankireddy.

“We are also in the process of confirming the whereabouts of all our other employees in the city [Sydney],” the company said in a statement. Earlier in Delhi, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M.Venkaiah Naidu had told presspersons that there is information of “one of our IT persons is also there.”

The company, however, did not share any detail of the staff’s identity held hostage. The family of the employee has been informed, it said.

“We are extending all possible support to them in this difficult time,” the statement said. The company said it was in touch with the local authorities and the Indian Consulate in Sydney for updates on the situation.
