Disney and Philips Lighting on Wednesday announced strategic partnership to create lighting products designed especially for kids. The companies have also collaborated with Amazon to sell these products exclusively through the e-commerce major.

The ‘Imaginative Lighting Range’ will sport popular Disney characters like Spiderman, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Winnie The Pooh among others.

“People are increasingly spending more on lighting as it is not just a medium of illumination but many other things such as creating ambience. A lot of parents really want to look at things beyond toys for their children, who have active imagination,” Philips India Lighting subcontinent president Nirupam Sahay said.

The portfolio which is designed for the kids between three to seven years, includes micro lamps, night lights, flash lights and projectors in the range of Rs. 800 to Rs. 5,000.

On selling these products through Amazon, he said the shopping portal’s vast network will ensure its availability not just in metros but also in tier II and III cities.

“We are launching it exclusively through Amazon because our research indicates that consumers which we are targeting are actually very comfortable buying online. It has become a great medium,” Mr. Sahay said.

Amazon India director (category management) Samir Kumar said this partnership is in line with the firm’s thrust on the home and kitchen decor segment, which is at present one of Amazon’s fastest growing category.
