There is an immense need for the ICT industry to focus on entrepreneurship and innovation, according to S. Mahalingam, former Chief Financial Officer of Tata Consultancy Services.

According to Mr. Mahalingam, the next edition of Connect—the Confederation of Indian Industry’s flagship ICT event— is all set to tackle sustainability, e-governance and the start-up ecosystem.

Connect, a brainchild of Mr. Mahalingam that started over a decade ago, focuses on connecting the IT with the communication industry, hardware with software, and the industry with the Government. It is widely reputed for having kick-started the Old Mahabalipuram Road’s IT industry cluster here. Connect 2013, which is being lead by R. Chandrasekaran, Group Chief Executive of Technology and Operations at Cognizant Technology Solutions, is set to be held on September 24 and 25.

“Our previous efforts have focussed on making sure the automobile, entertainment, healthcare and IT industries in Tamil Nadu could co-exist and thrive. Now, we want to turn the movement towards entrepreneurship and tackling national problems of power and water,” he said.
