Someone rightly said, “Dreams are not those that we see in our sleep. Dreams are those which do not let us sleep.” Jai ‘Jack' Patel had one such dream.

The start

Myers York, a largest investment firm, announced its first-ever presence on Indian soil in 2005 and Jai Patel was mesmerised. He wanted to be a part of it. What Jai, quickly renamed ‘Jack' by his colleagues, didn't know was that he was placed as consultant in the Myers York's Dubai office! He stood there almost dumbstruck and found himself already painting his dreams on the canvas. And in no time he was on his way to attend the New York training programme. The next thing he knew, he was in Dubai at ‘his' office, Myers York.

His life at Myers York grows from a few tens of thousands to millions and, next, he is on the list of the highest asset generators leading a luxurious life. Times were smooth for him as he moved from a joint office to a cabin of his own, from travelling economy class to business class and the most important of all; he found the love of his life. It was the best he could ask for. Amid all the good times, one crisis and Jack Patel's life turns upside down.

The market values fall miserably, the situation is uncontrollable and he can see his entire life crumble. Is this his end? Will there be a way out? That's when his family proves that they're there for even when the world's turned their backs on him.

Highs and lows

The book has much of banking and investments and might seem vague in parts. But in other chapters it's quite colourful, which compensates for the dryness. It has lots of references from daily life that the reader can easily connect with. It is the story of a traditional Gujarati man who follows his passion in the jet-setting world of investment and private banking and how he finds his life after getting tied down in the world of money!
