Concert in memory of T. Brinda

The Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana Committee will mark Sangita Kalanidhi T. Brinda's Remembrance Day on Monday, December 27, 2010, from 10 a.m. at Raga Sudha Hall, Luz, Chennai.

The Cleveland Thyagaraja Aradhana Committee will mark Sangita Kalanidhi T. Brinda's Remembrance Day on Monday, December 27, 2010, from 10 a.m. at Raga Sudha Hall, Luz, Chennai. Tiruvarur Girish, grandson and disciple of T. Brinda, will present a vocal concert and will be accompanied on the violin by Vinjumuri Kamala Kiran (a prodigy from USA) and on the mridangam by Sangita Kalanidhi T.K. Murthy. The programme is open to all music lovers.

T. Brinda was one of the most remarkable musicians in the annals of Carnatic music. Grand-daughter of the legendary vainika, Dhanammal, and daughter of Kamakshi Ammal, T. Brinda was the most prominent & eloquent inheritor of the Dhanam school of grace and charm. At the age of nine and at this time, she came under the tutelage of Kanchipuram Naina Pillai. Brinda and learnt in the traditional gurukula system. She was known for her concerts with sister Mukta and later with daughter Vegavauhini. Brinda was known for her vast repertoire of kritis , padams and javalis .
