Bollywood is ready for yet another Mallika. Not the actor Mallika Sherawat, but the film “Mallika”, scheduled to hit theatres this Friday, where actor Sheena Nayyar is all set to make her debut. Here the debutante talks about her first film and future projects.

How do you feel about being touted as the next Mallika Sherawat?

People have been tagging me as Mallika ever since the promos were revealed. But I want to clarify that the similarity ends with the name of the movie and the name of the character I am playing. I have a separate identity and want to be recognised as Sheena only.

Tell us about the film movie and your role in it. character.

It is directed by Wilson Louis, and Samir Dattani is cast opposite me. I play the central character of Mallika, who lives in Jodhpur. It is a horror-thriller with elements of action and romance as well.

How did you land up in films?

I am a movie buff and grew up watching movies. Acting was something I always knew I could do. After graduating from Sri Venkateshwara College in Delhi, I learnt acting from Barry John and struggled for a few months. When I heard the script of ‘Mallika', I was very excited. After several rounds of auditions I bagged the role.

What kind of roles do you want to do in the future?

It is just the start of my career. I want to experiment and do all kinds of roles. I would love to work with Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan as they are my favourites. Images are very difficult to break. Because of my character in this movie, I am being recognised as just another sexy actress. But I am capable of doing serious roles, too.

What are your expectations from ‘Mallika'? Are you working on any other projects?

This movie will do wonders for my career. I am confident of my acting skills. ‘Mallika' will prove my calibre and establish me in mainstream cinema. I am also doing a film called ‘Interview' with a Hollywood director and I'm in talks over some other projects too.
