Litterateur C.J. Roy was felicitated on the occasion of his 75th birthday here on Thursday. Writer and critic Sukumar Azhikode released Mr. Roy's autobiography, ‘Akshara Yaathrakal', at the function.
Speaking about Mr. Roy's writings, Mr. Azhikode said that he had been an “apostle of mild literature.”
“His writings deem a great value to the power of silence. They also highlight the treasures of the world,” Mr. Azhikode said.
During his presidential speech, former Supreme Court judge K.T. Thomas spoke about the remarkable nature of Mr. Roy. “Despite the busy nature of his lifestyle, he has always maintained an air of calmness around him. This is a virtue that could always be an inspiration to many. Moreover, his autobiography is a testimony to his life of contentment,” he said.
V.N. Vasavan, MLA, who received the autobiography, said that Mr. Roy has contributed immensely to Malayalam literature as well as the cultural field of Kerala.
Metropolitan of Thrissur Yuhanon Mar Milithios; Madavana Balakrishna Pillai, Director, Mahatma Gandhi University School of Communications; K.M. George; and Jose Parakadavil attended the function.
