Continuing with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) strategy to focus on West Bengal, party president in the State Rahul Sinha has announced an extensive tour plan of the senior national-level leaders, including national president Amit Shah.
While the visit of Health Minister Harsh Vardhan is yet to be scheduled, another heavyweight, Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, will be visiting the State on August 24.
Mr. Sinha reiterated at a press conference that Mr. Shah would “specially focus” on Bengal, in view of 2016 Assembly poll.
While many in West Bengal feel that the BJP’s organisation at the local level is yet to be in place to challenge the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), the party leadership thinks it otherwise. Mr. Sinha has said that the party is “pulling no punches to contest the 2016 election”.
“We will do whatever is required to be done and Mr. Shah has assured me of complete support,” said Mr. Sinha. Mr. Shah will be in north Bengal in the first week of September to attend the State committee meeting. Mr. Jaitley will visit on August 24 to meet the “intellectuals of Bengal.”
