Gajjar moves up

Rohan Gajjar got past seventh seed Arata Onozawa of Japan in the first round of the $10,000 ITF men's Futures tennis tournament at Phuket. Gajjar led 6-4, 1-0 when the Japanese retired.

In doubles pre-quarterfinals, Gajjar in partnership with Christopher Rungkat of Indonesia beat Adirek Khundarnpinitvon and Grittaboon Prahmanee of Thailand 6-2, 6-3. Abhijeet Tiwari, who lost the singles qualifying final round to his doubles partner Roy Hobbs of Singapore, made the doubles quarterfinals as the duo beat Kong Pop Lertchal and Natasith Luesantia of Thailand 6-3, 7-6(4).
