President Boris Tadic on Tuesday honoured Serbia’s Novak Djokovic with the country’s top medal.

The world’s top tennis player, Djokovic was awarded the Karadjordje’s Star medal for his promotion of Serbia, Tadic’s office said.

“He is Serbia’s best ambassador to the world,” Tadic said on his website. The Karadjordje medal is Serbia’s highest honour to an individual or an institution.

Djokovic was decorated for the occasion of the Serbian Statehood Day, which falls on Wednesday.
