Ace gymnast Dipa Karmakar, who produces the risky Produnova vault in a few seconds, endured the men’s tennis final in the Fenesta National championship for nearly an hour and a half. Dipa, who finished fourth in the Rio Olympics and captured the imagination of the entire nation, was polite in saying that she liked her maiden experience of watching a tennis match.

On being asked by the media to explain her position with regard to return to international competition, Dipa said that she was still going through her fitness regimen and was looking forward to returning to the vault by December.

The 24-year-old Dipa, who finished fifth in the World Championship and has medals from the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Championships, said that as sportspersons there was no guarantee of competing in every international tournament.

Dipa said that she would take a decision about continuing with the risky Produnova vault or try some thing else in due course, after consulting with the coaches. She said that the focus would be to get ready for the Commonwealth Games and later the Asian Games next year.

“I am not sure about what to do. May be try another vault. Nothing has been decided yet. I am yet to start practise,” said a smiling Dipa.
