Bad day for Indian pairs at ATP tour event

Leander Paes and Scott Lipsky of the United States were beaten 6-4, 6-4 by second seeds Raven Klaasen of South Africa and Rajeev Ram of the United States in the quarterfinals of the €660,375 ATP Tour event on Wednesday.

Purav Raja and Divij Sharan fell to Andre Sa of Brazil and Michael Venus of New Zealand, losing 6-3, 6-4 in the pre-quarterfinals.

Yuki loses

In the €127,000 Challenger in Nottingham, Yuki Bhambri missed a set point in the first set tie-break and went on to lose 7-6(8), 6-0 to fourth seed Thomas Fabbiano of Italy in the pre-quarterfinals.

Ramkumar advances

In the €127,000 Challenger in Caltanissetta (Italy), Ramkumar Ramanathan saved two set points in the tie-break to get past Sebastian Ofner of Austria 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(6).

Nine aces

Sixth seed Naomi Broady of Britain fired nine aces and converted three of six breakpoints to beat Ankita Raina 6-3, 6-4 in the first round of the $100,000 ITF women’s event in Manchester.
