Stan Wawrinka considers 2014 as his best year yet, according to an official media release. The year saw him win his maiden Grand Slam, Masters and Davis Cup titles.
The Australian Open win is said to have given a lot of confidence for younger players to break the stranglehold of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray at the top.
“The ‘Big Four’ are so good, and I know they are still at least a step ahead of the rest. But on a good day, when I play my best tennis, I have a chance to beat them,” he said.
The 29-year-old also hoped that the Chennai Open would prove to be lucky again. “The tournament was a great start to an amazing year in 2014, and I hope it will be the same in the New Year.”
