Abhimanyu Vannem Reddy bounced back from a slow start to defeat Atharva Sharma 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the boys’ first round of the ITF grade-2 junior tennis tournament here on Tuesday. He will face eighth seed Parikshit Somani in the pre-quarterfinals.
Vashisht Cheruku and Dhruv Sunish were the other Indian boys to progress to the second round.
In the girls’ section, Humera Shaik lost to Axana Mareen of Belgium without a fight, while second seed and last week’s champion Mahak Jain blanked compatriot Ishita Singh.
