Arun Kumar began host India’s defence of its team title with a gold on the first day of the Asian cadet wrestling championship here on Thursday. Arun beat Seyedabolfazl Hashemijouybar of Iran 7-6 on points in the final of the 85kg freestyle bout to win gold.
Two golds, two silvers and a bronze
India dominated the medal tally on the opening day of the competition at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium with a haul of two golds, two silvers and a bronze in the seven weight categories across three sections.
In the 100kg, however, Nasir Hussain had to settle for silver after losing to Iranian Naeiim Hassanzadeh.
India’s other gold medal of the day came in the Greco-Roman category with Pradeep completely dominating his opponents in the 50kg category.
In the final, Pradeep overwhelmed Japan’s Takhashi Sanshiro 6-0 on points to clinch the title.
In the women’s section, Annu Devi managed to get silver in the 40kg category while Ankush had to settle for bronze in the 38 kg.
