Ravinder secured India’s first medal at the Under-23 World wrestling championship after advancing to the 61kg category final here.

The 22-year-old pinned senior European champion Arsen Harutyunan of Armenia with a 4-3 win in the semifinals on Tuesday night, a statement from Wrestling Federation of India said.

In 74kg, Gaurav Baliyan lost out on a medal after losing to Fazli Eryilmaz of Turkey 14-4 in the repchege.

Meanwhile in the women’s section, Jyoti stormed into the 50kg semifinals with a 12-1 win over Moldova’s Maria Leorda. While Jyoti dazzled on the mat, the other Indian women failed to emulate her.

In 55kg, Rani Rana was blanked 6-0 by USA’s Dominique Olivia Parrish, Suman went down 6-4 against China’s Yingying Wang. In 59kg, Pooja Yadav’s campaign was cut short by top seed Tiana Grace Kennett, who dealt her a 6-2 blow.
