Two records rewritten

Two more National records were established on the penultimate day of the four-day 50th men and 26th women’s junior National weightlifting championship on Saturday.

Vandana Gupta of Uttar Pradesh set a National record in snatch event of the 63 kg class for women by clearing 87 kg which bettered B. Prameelavalli of Andhra Pradesh’s record of 86 kg. Vandana won all gold medals to win the event from Rakhi Haldar (WB) and Swarupa Purty (Odi).

Kojum Taba of Arunachal Pradesh hoisted 169 kg in clean and jerk event of the men’s 77 kg body weight group to set a new mark. The old record of 168 kg stood in the name of R.V. Rahul of Andhra Pradesh. Taba too won all the three gold medals available from this weight class.

The results: Men: 77 kg: 1. Kojum Taba (Aru – 32, 169, 301), 2. R.V. Rahul (AP – 131, 153, 284, 3. Narayan Singh (Del – 120, 155, 275); 85 kg: 1. Ashutosh Kumar Singh (UP – 122, 155, 277), 2. Ankit (Har – 121, 150, 271), 3. Shivam Saini (UP – 117, 150 , 267). Women: 63 kg: 1. Vandana Gupta (UP – 87, 104, 191), 2. Rakhi Haldar (WB -79, 102, 181), 3. Swarupa Purty (Odi – 78, 99, 177); 69 kg: 1. Sushila Panwar (UP – 82, 99, 181), 2. Swapna Priya Baruah (Asm – 76, 94, 170), 3. Pooja (Del – 67, 97, 164). 75 kg: 1. Seema (Del – 78, 97, 175), 2. Anu (Pun – 73, 94, 167), 3. Preeti Bisht (Utk – 70, 91, 161); Over 75 kg: 1. Munni (Har – 87, 110, 197), 2. P.M. Kanchan (Kar – 69, 90 , 159), 3. Jaspreet Kaur (Pun – 70, 87, 157).
