Nunna-based Vikas College of Physical Education (BPED) is all set to host the South Zone inter-university handball tournament for men from October 21 to 25 for which four courts with national standards were spruced up with the help of Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) officials .
They are also taking all necessary steps to cover the courts with specially made covers to tackle the rain. All the matches will be conducted in knockout-cum-league basis.
Reception counters
Several teams have already reached the venue and started their practice sessions. “The college management has opened reception counters at Vijayawada railway station for the benefit of the visiting teams. Special buses were arranged from railway station to pick up the teams to Vikas College, which is 15 km from the station,” said Vikas Educational Institutions secretary and correspondent Naredla Satyanarayana Reddy.
He further said that the premier sporting event held in the rural area has come as a boon to the villagers who can enjoy the five-day on-court proceedings. “For the benefit of them we are arranging special buses from Nunna SBI branch to the venue, he added.
