Rathore to head awards committee

Noted shooter Rajyavardhan Rathore will head a 15-member committee to select the awardees for this year’s Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and Arjuna Award.

The committee headed by the 2004 Athens Olympic silver-medallist includes names like Baichung Bhutia, Khajan Singh, Ravi Shastri, Akhil Kumar, Aparna Popat and Ashwini Nachappa.

The 15-member committee to select the Dronacharya Awardees will be chaired by Aslam Sher Khan, a member of the 1975 World Cup winning hockey team.

Ceremony on Aug. 29

These awards will be presented by President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan on August 29, the National Sports Day.

The recipients the Dhyan Chand Award for lifetime achievements in sports, Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar and Maulana Abul Kalam Trophy will also be honoured during the function.

The selection committee members are :
