The Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) and Baseline Ventures on Monday announced the commencement of the bid process for six teams in the Pro Volleyball League, scheduled for later this year.
The bid documents for prospective franchise owners will be available from May 15, with June 30 the deadline to submit bids.
“A bidder will be able to bid for two cities of its choice and the final winning bids for the six teams will be chosen as per the eligibility parameters mentioned in the bid document, which includes their interest in the development of the sport in India,” said Pro Volleyball League CEO Joy Bhattacharjya.
Two venues
The PVL, which is scheduled to commence after the 2018 Asian Games, will be played across two cities in the country, one in the north and the other in the south. Teams will consist of players from national teams across all FIVB member nations, with a predominant Indian player pool, stated a press release on Monday. Player auction for Indian players are scheduled for July, with overseas stars to be recruited via a draft.
Team owners would not face a heavy financial burden, stated Baseline Ventures Managing Director Tuhin Mishra.
“Apart from the financial commitment made in the initial bid, plus an expense on player salaries that we have capped at ₹75 lakh per team, the team owners will see very minimal cost implications.
The league will undertake all other costs, including team travel and logistics and other associated costs,” he said.
The bid documents will be available at Baseline Ventures offices in Gurugram, Mumbai and Bengaluru for a deposit of ₹50,000.
