Emile Kristine Pedersen managed to break the shackles and finish as the clubhouse leader with a score of two-under 70 at the DLF Golf and Country Club even as the opening round of the Hero Women’s Indian Open here on Friday remained incomplete due to fading light.
While the front nine holes remained comparatively benign, it was the back nine where the newly-inaugurated Black Knight course unleashed its full force on Day One. Emile’s was one of only three under-par scores for the day.
In fact, only five golfers managed to break even as the tricky holes and undulating greens made it tough to control shots. Emile was followed by Thailand’s Saraporn Chamchoi and Italian Giulia Sergas, tied on one-under 71.
The scores (A denotes amateur):70: Emile Kristine Pedersen (Den); 71: Saraporn Chamchoi (Tha), Giulia Sergas (Ita); 72: Minea Blomqvist (Fin), Sophia Popov (Ger); 73: Becky Morgan (Wal), Ursula Wikstrom (Fin), Malene Jorgensen (Den), Katie Burnett (USA), Nontaya Srisawang (Tha), Liz Young (Eng), Nanna Koerstz Madsen (Den).
