Olympic Day run today

VIJAYAWADA: Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh (SAAP) Managing Director N. Bangara Raju on Thursday asked all the 12 District Sports Authority (DSA) officials (barring Krishna) and the District Olympic Associations to jointly conduct the annual Olympic Day run on Friday in their respective districts.

He said an amount of ₹70,000 was earmarked for the event with 50% contribution from the DSA and Olympic associations.

“Make efforts to conduct the run with 5,000 athletes of all age groups both men and women along with sports administrators, coaches, physical education teachers and other enthusiasts in the a five–km run ,” he added.

However, Krishna District is not staging the run as it is gearing up to stage a State-level run later this week involving all 12 districts. “Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will be the chief guest and we will fix the date as per his availability,” said Andhra Pradesh Oylmpic Association secretary Purushotham.

He said more than 10,000 participants from 12 districts along with 1,000 athletes, walkers and coaches from Krishna District will take part in the run which will have cultural events at IGMC stadium.
