The Indian shooters preparing for the Tokyo Olympics will have top-class competition at home as the International Shooting Federation (ISSF) has awarded a World Cup in principle to India in 2020.

The assurance was given to the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) president, Raninder Singh, during the ISSF’s ongoing executive committee meeting in Vienna.

“We are extremely grateful to the ISSF president and the entire executive committee for reposing faith in the country’s and NRAI’s ability to hold such big competition’’, said Raninder in a release issued on Saturday.

India is scheduled to host a World Cup next year from February 20 to 28, which will offer Olympic quota places for Tokyo.

India has been hosting a series of world class competition in recent times, including the World Cup Finals in all events last year.

Dates to be finalised soon

The dates for the World Cup in India in 2020 will be finalised soon, as the ISSF has only put the dates for the Olympic Games as well as the World Cup in Tokyo, a test event for the Olympics, for 2020.
