A senior kabaddi coach in the Sports Authority of India (SAI) South Centre has been accused of allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl on Tuesday evening.

A formal complaint has been lodged with the SAI, which is conducting an inquiry into the incident. No police complaint has yet been filed, though.

According to sources, around 4.15 p.m. on Tuesday, the girl raised an alarm at the girls’ dressing room near the kabaddi ground of the sports complex where the coach allegedly molested her. The girl ran out of the dressing room crying and telephoned her mother, who stays nearby.

Coach thrashed

Her father and uncle arrived at the venue later in the evening, and thrashed the coach.

According to sources, when confronted, the coach allegedly confessed to the incident.

SAI Regional Director M. Shyam Sundar said: “We are waiting for the report and will take action, whether it is suspension or removal or taking the matter to the police.”

Police officials said a case can be registered only after the parents file a formal complaint.

“We will wait for permission from the guardians,” said a senior police official.
