Ajay, Sourabh and Lakshya move up in contrasting fashion

India’s Ajay Jayaram, Sourabh Verma and Lakshya Sen entered the men’s singles second round after contrasting wins on the opening day of the Canada Open Super 100 badminton here.

Ajay recovered from a mid-game slump to outwit local hope Huang Guoxing 21-15, 20-22, 21-15 and set up a clash with Rajiv Ouseph.

National champion Sourabh and Asian junior champion Lakshya, however, didn’t have to break any sweat as they prevailed in straight games over their opponents.

P. Kashyap and H.S. Prannoy had received a bye in the first round.

The results:

Ajay Jayaram bt Huang Guoxing (Can) 21-15, 20-22, 21-15; Sourabh Verma bt Antonio Li (Can) 21-18, 21-13.

Lakshya Sen bt Chun Kar Lung (Eng) 21-7, 21-8 .
