Indian athletes at home in London

July 18, 2012 12:29 am | Updated 12:29 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The small batch of Indian athletes, including Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra, were reported to be comfortable at the Athletes Village in London, according to a release from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) here on Tuesday.

A ten-member archery squad and a four-member weightlifting team apart from Bindra were received by the Deputy Chef de Mission Col. P.K. Muralidharan Raja at the Games Village. The Indian contingent of 81 athletes and 51 officials have been given accommodation in the Seaside Building, named as Titan. The accommodation has been planned to house two per room in apartments, with all facilities including television and wifi internet.

The main dining hall was also reported to have a section for 'foods from India and Asia', expected to become operational in due course of time.

The transport mall, facilitating the movement of athletes and officials to training and competition venues, was also an easy walk away. It has been a warm experience for the athletes except for the cold gust of wind and the wet weather.

The bleak weather has forced a minor warning for future batches of athletes and officials scheduled to reach London to be equipPed with woollen, umbrellas and rain coat.
