Former world champion Peter Gade has been closely watching the progress of the Indian badminton stars for some time now. And, he says the reason for their phenomenal rise over the last few years is because of the efforts put in by in the Indian coaches.
“I think Indian badminton has always had a strong tradition and history. It kind of came alive with Saina Nehwal, who brought in some great results. Also, a huge effort has been put in by the coaches in India. And, when you have coaches with the right kind of knowledge, who pass it on to the younger players, then results are bound to come,” Gade told The Hindu in an exclusive chat.
“It’s great to see India being huge force in the badminton world. It has a bright future ahead,” he added.
Talking about the men’s singles players in the country, he said they are doing good. “But they need to be more consistent in their performances and complete in their game of being able to play at the highest level — no matter where they play in the world. It also has many interesting players to follow in the future”
About the training camp, Gade said there was a lot of demand and interest for camps in India the past few years.
“In this case, I found a good and professional set up to make it possible.”
Will this be a regular feature? “Let me see how it pans out and I will decide whether it can be a regular feature,” he added.
