GM-norm for Saptarshi

IM Saptarshi Roy made his maiden Grandmaster-norm after part of a three-way tie, which also involved teammate Deepan Chakkravarthy, in the Obert international open chess tournament at Sant Marti, in eastern Barcelona.

Deepan finished second and Saptarshi third behind Cuba’s Isan Renaldo Ortiz Suarz.

Indians’ final standings: 2-3 Deepan Chakkravarthy, Saptarshi Roy (seven each), 6. R.R. Laxman (6.5), 11. M.R. Venkatesh (6.5), 15. Somak Palit (6), 21. Anurag Mhamal (5.5), 26. P. Konguvel (5.5), 39. Prasanna Rao (5), 45. C.R.G. Krishna (4.5), 50. Y.V.K. Chakravarthi (4.5), and 77. Dhyani Dave (3.5).

Negi among leaders

Second seed Parimarjan Negi was among the 27 leaders’ group at two points in the Andorra international open in Andorra on Sunday.
