Saurav Ghosal clinched his second PSA World Tour event title this year, prevailing over second-seeded Zahed Salem of Egypt 11-5, 8-11, 11-8, 11-13, 11-5 in the final of the Kolkata International $30,000 PSA Challenger here on Sunday. The match lasted 86 minutes.
Playing in front of a partisan home crowd at the Calcutta Racket Club, the World No. 11 made a brilliant start but lapsed into errors before pulling things back in the decider against the World No. 27.
The 32-year-old Indian won the first game 11-5, showing good control and aggression against the 26-year-old Egyptian. However, in the second, the latter produced a number of spectacular winners to level the score.
Ghosal came back strongly in the third (11-8), but squandered two championship points at 10-8 in the fourth. Salem took the game 11-13.
The Indian, however, was in his element in the decider which he won 11-5.
