A fighter to the core, Spaniard Fernando Alonso is in no mood to accept that his biggest rival Sebastian Vettel is the undisputed king of present day Formula One.
Asked whether this could be termed as ‘Vettel’s era,’ the Ferrari driver said judging his Red Bull competitor might be a relative assessment.
“I do not know, this is decided by you guys (journalists), you have more information. It is also down to the fans, they have been watching for so many years... We need to see what he (Vettel) does in future because there is some time,” Alonso said on Thursday.
“There are different opinions, and it happens in all sports.”
Alonso underlined that he had a lot still left in him. “I am (only) 32, so it is not the last year of my career. I am sure I will have more opportunities and I would like to win more championships,” he said.
“In the last 3-4 years, I have finished second three times, which is obviously sad because you are close to a fight in championship. But I am extremely proud.”
Alonso said there was no dearth of motivation for him even though it would be difficult to catch up with Vettel this year.
“For the rest of year we will try to help the team getting the second position in the championship,” he said.
