India’s campaign in the World youth volley ball championship began on a positive note with the team beating a fighting Poland 18-25, 26-24, 25-18, 18-25, 15-13 at the Bassano del Grappa in Italy on Friday.
“Ravikumar did well in both attack and block, and setter Ranjit performed well in set-up and serves,” said G.E. Sridharan, the head coach of the team.
After a sluggish opening set, the boys bounced back in style to wrap up the next two sets. It was not easy though. The Polish players refused to give up. They fought back as much to take the match to the decider.
It was at this juncture that the team played to its full potential. “The blockers did their job and in counter attack it was a combined effort. Our next match against Brazil is crucial,” said the coach.
