Indian women’s squash team came back from a game down to beat Hong Kong 2-1 in a Group B match of the 17th Asian Games at the Yeorumul Squash Courts in Incheon on Wednesday.

Top women’s player, Dipika Pallikal who won the bronze in the singles event in Incheon, lost the closely-fought first match 11-5, 6-11, 8-11, 12-10, 9-11 to Annie Au Wing-Chi in a little over an hour to give Hong Kong a 1-0 lead.

Joshna Chinappa, who was ousted from the singles competition by Pallikal, drew India level after another draining five-setter, winning 6-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-9, 11-9 in 58 minutes.

It seemed India were destined to go down 0-2 and lose the tie after Hong Kong’s Chan Ho-ling took a 2-0 lead.

Chinappa, though, refused to give up and fought back bravely to win the next three games to send the tie to a decider.

In the decider, it was again Hong Kong who took the early lead.

Tong Tsz-Wing won the opening game against Anaka Alankamony but the Indian youngster swiftly turned it around and won the match 8-11, 13-11, 11-9, 11-5 in 59 minutes to give India the win.
