Virgin Racing to use rival McLaren's facilities

July 04, 2011 04:10 pm | Updated 04:10 pm IST - LONDON

Virgin Racing has made a deal with rival McLaren that allows it to use facilities belonging to the more successful Formula One team.

Virgin says it has entered into “a long—term technical partnership” with McLaren Applied Technologies that secures the use of tools including test rigs, driver simulators and a wind tunnel.

Cosworth will still supply Virgin’s engines.

Virgin chief executive Andy Webb says “we can benefit enormously from McLaren’s far—reaching techniques and capabilities.”

Virgin has also bought former technical partner WRT and will use its facilities in Banbury, England, for two years while the team builds a new unit.

Webb says Virgin will now be able to make “some dramatic strides forward with immediate effect.”
