TVS Racing’s K.Y. Ahamed brushed aside the challenge of his ‘tutor’ and teammate Jagan Kumar in an exciting second race battle of the Super Sport Indian (165cc, Open) class in the Rolon round of the MRF-MMSC FMSCI Indian National motorcycle racing championship at the Kari Motor Speedway circuit in Chettipalayam here on Sunday.

The 20-year-old from Chennai won the opener the other day and was confident of completing a maiden double.

And, he did that by beating some of the best in a rather stylish manner on Sunday. Jagan, the reigning national champion and who taught Ahamed the basics and raised him to this level, made life difficult for the youngster for most part of the race.

The duo pushed each other to the maximum but a deflated front tyre in the 10th lap cost Jagan dear. The six-time champion was upset but he carried on to finish a creditable sixth.

“Jagan was very quick and posed a big threat to my chances but it was quite unfortunate that he suffered a puncture midway through,” said Ahamed.

Jagan was pleased with Ahamed’s efforts. “He deserves to win and I am really proud of him,” he said.
