Team Gerrari Off-Roaders ‘A’ from Chandigarh, represented by Gurmeet Singh (co-driver Gurpratap Sandhu) and Kabir Waraich (Yuvraj Singh Tiwana) took the early lead in the JK Tyre Orange 4x4 Fury here on Sunday.
The team did not enjoy the kind of start that it badly wanted on the opening night stage (Showman) the other day but was quite thrilled as it was again its second team, consisting of Gurinder Singh / Amrit Pal Singh and Sushant Saini / Deepak Bagga, that bagged 100 points and the top spot.
But Gurmeet and Kabir came back strongly to finish second in the most gruelling of the stages, the Bamboo Rush, on Sunday. Obviously, it elevated them to the top of the table with an overall tally of 165 points.
The stages were really tough and required lots of courage and skill and the champion side showed that to a great measure.
The Showman stage saw the two car teams climb the hill and take a virtual 70-degree free fall which was pretty stunning.
The Bamboo Rush turned out to be even difficult with the participants going up a tricky 60-degree incline and take a sharp and a narrow left before gliding down. Most of the teams had to use the winch to tackle the dug up and dusty dirt terrain.
“It was really challenging and I am glad we were up to it. We are glad to be in the front in such a competitive field,” said Gurmeet.
Kabir was a satisfied man as well. “We worked as a team to overcome the hurdles. The next two days are going to be tough but we are ready for it,” he said.
The results:
Stage 1 (Showman): 1. Team Gerrari Off-Roaders ‘B’ (Gurinder Singh / Amrit Pal Singh & Sushant Saini / Deepak Bagga); 2.
