Sri Lanka’s Bryan Perera did not do anything big the other day. But he came back strongly to score a deserving double in the Euro JK 18 class in the 21st JK Tyre National Racing Championship at the Kari Motor Speedway here on Sunday.
The second race of Euro JK 18, rescheduled for Sunday, saw Bryan making the best use of the grid position to forge ahead. Chennai’s Karthik Tharani, the first race winner, forced the pace as well from the back and spun a bit in the first corner. He recovered quickly enough but could not build it up from there.
Mumbai’s Nayan S. Chatterjee and Chennai’s Ashwin Datta looked determined to trouble Bryan, who kept a cool head to take the chequered flag with a timing of 15:22.568s. Nayan and Ashwin finished second and third respectively.
The situation was pretty much the same in the third race with Bryan, Nayan and Ashwin, after an exciting tussle, finishing in that order.
Later in the day, Karthik replied in a fitting manner with a stunning win in the final race that went to the wire. It was probably the closest finish that one got to see in a long time.
