Former world champion Fernando Alonso led the way in a Ferrari in both practice sessions on Thursday for the Monaco Formula One Grand Prix.
Alonso clocked 1 minute 15.927 seconds in the morning session and lowered the time to 1:14.904 in the afternoon for the 3.340-kilometres lap on the famous street course. The Spaniard won the world title in 2005 and 2006, and the Monaco race in 2006 and 2007. This season he won the opening race in Bahrain.
With the faster times recorded in the afternoon before a little rain set in towards the end of the session, Alonso led from Germans Nico Rosberg (Mercedes GP, 1:15.013) and Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull, 1:15.099).
Felipe Massa was fourth in the other Ferrari, world champion and 2009 Monaco winner Jenson Button ninth in a Mclaren and Sunday’s Spanish GP winner Mark Webber 10th in the second Red Bull. Button, who won the Monaco GP last year, leads the 2010 standings with 70 points from Alonso (67) and Vettel (60) after five of 19 season races.
