Little Flower, Mount Carmel in semifinals

Little Flower HSS, Koratty and Mount Carmel HSS, Kottayam made it into the semifinals in the girls' under-16 section of the Mahindra NBA challenge basketball tournament at the Central stadium on Sunday.

Little Flower HS overcame Mount Carmel HSS 52-46 to top the group ‘A'.

However, Mount Carmel defeated Carmel HSS, Thiruvananthapuram to qualify from the same group.

In boys' section, Youngsters Kurianoor recorded two wins in under-18 section.

Youngsters beat Christ Nagar, Thiruvananthapuram 50-29 and Viswadeepthi HS 26-14 respectively.

In under-13 section, YMCA, Tiruvalla had mixed luck. YMCA beat St.Thomas HS, Tvm 30-8 but lost to Shanthal Jyothi HSS, Thodupuzha 21-46.

Rohit slams century

An unbeaten century by Rohit Rajaneesh (129 batting) carried Central Zone to a comfortable total against North Zone on the opening day of the State under-22 inter-zone cricket match at the Fort Maidan here on Sunday.

Central Zone scored 251 for five in its allotted 70 overs and at stumps had reduced North Zone to 29 for one.

At Perinthalmanna, Ali Asgar continued his rich vein of form as his second consecutive half-century (90) pitchforked South Zone to a respectable score against KCA XI.

P. Rahul (70 batting) and Salim (40 batting) propped up the South Zone innings which finished at 261 for three in the allotted 70 overs. However, KCA XI made a strong reply and was 54 for no loss at stumps.

The scores:

Central Zone 251 for five in 70 overs (Rohit Rajaneesh 129 batting, Jafar Jamal 32, Mohd. Irshad three for 69 vs North Zone 24 for one in 15 overs

South Zone 261 for three in 70 overs (Ali Asgar 90, P. Rahul 70 batting, Salim batting 40) vs KCA XI 54 for no loss in 18 overs.
