India will take on World Cup and World League champion Australia on the opening day of the Hockey World League (HWL) Final to be held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from December 1 to 10.
Seven teams which have qualified for next year’s World Cup (in Bhubaneswar) and the host, India, will feature in the HWL Final. In addition to battle for the title, the participating teams will stand to gain world ranking points.
The Netherlands, Argentina, England, Belgium, Germany and Australia qualified for the HWL Final after finishing in the top three of the HWL Semifinals in London and Johannesburg. Spain, which bagged the fourth place in London, made it as the next best finisher highest ranked team in the Semifinals.
Apart from India and Australia, Pool B consists of Germany and England. India will meet England on December 2 and Germany on December 4.
Olympic champion Argentina, European champion the Netherlands, Olympic silver medallist Belgium and Spain have been clubbed in Pool A, said an International Hockey Federation (FIH) statement on Thursday.
