Sporting beats Aizawl FC

Aided by Stanley Okoroigwe's hat-trick Mohammedan Sporting, Kolkata picked up its second successive win downing Aizawl FC 4-3 in a first-leg encounter of the second division I-League final phase at Siliguri on Sunday, according to information received here. In another match played on the same day, two former elite division teams ONGC, Mumbai and Vasco SC, Goa played out a 1-1 draw.

The win took Mohammedan Sporting's tally to nine points from four matches as it joined United Sikkim FC, which has played match less in comparison, on top of the current league standings.

In the other match, Jerose Oliveira put Vasco in the lead with a fifth minute goal before ONGC equalised in the 63rd minute off Kailash Patil. ONGC tallied seven points from five matches while Vasco netted five points from as many outings.

The results: Mohammedan Sporting 4 (Stanley Okoroigwe 1, 28, 63, Alfred Jryan 42) bt Aizawl FC 3 (David Laringmunna 47, Owolesh Abey 80, V. Lalchhunawma 90+3); Vasco SC 1 (Jerose Oliveira 5) drew with ONGC 1 (Kailash Patil 63).
