‘Clubs may sign players from English rivals’

May 05, 2010 04:49 pm | Updated 04:49 pm IST - LONDON

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Premier League clubs may be tempted to sign players from other English clubs this year because of the transfer policies of wealthy clubs such as Manchester City.

Wenger has mostly signed players from outside Britain during his 14 years at Arsenal but said on Wednesday that the English transfer market may offer better value than usual if City and Chelsea decide to shop overseas.

Wenger says “the big teams with big financial potential like Man City, like Chelsea might go abroad. So if they move abroad the internal market will be a bit cheaper.”

Wenger’s most recent signings from English clubs were Mikael Silvestre on a free transfer from Manchester United and Aaron Ramsey from Cardiff in 2008.
