IWL from tomorrow

The Hero Indian Women’s Football League (IWL), beginning at the Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana on May 5, will witness some of the top female players of the country and from abroad.

Defending champion Rising Student’s Club will take on Gokulam Kerala FC on Sunday in the inaugural match. As many as 12 teams, divided into two groups of six each, will participate.

“Women’s football in our country is going through an exciting phase. We have seen the Indian women’s team produce some great results on the international front,” said All India Football Federation secretary Kushal Das.

He further said the league will unearth many more young talent. “We are sure to see the rise of more talented players in the third season of the Hero IWL.”

The teams:

Group I: Rising Student’s Club, Gokulam Kerala FC, FC Alakhpura, Hans Women’s FC, Central SSB, Panjim Footballers.

Group II: Manipur Police, Sethu FC, Bangalore United, SAI-STC (Cuttack), FC Kolhapur City, Baroda FA.
