Aizawl FC threatens ‘fast’

Threatens actions upto ‘fast unto death’ if denied entry in top tier

Aizawl FC has threatened to go on a ‘fast’ if it is not allowed to play in the top tier of next season. AIFF is mulling a restructuring of domestic football into three tiers. According to the plan, the top one will be played among existing ISL teams and two-three clubs from the I-League.

The second is likely to be made up of current I-League clubs sans those which make it to the top rung. There will be no promotion to the top league from the lower tiers at least for seven years. Fearing that it will be consigned to the second tier, Aizwal has written to the AIFF to allow it to remain in the top group in any scenario.
