Tottenham Hotspur opened up a small gap in the race for fourth spot in the English Premier League after they beat Fulham 2-0.

With Liverpool held 0-0 at Wolverhampton Wanderers, the goals from Peter Crouch and David Bentley took Spurs three points clear of both Liverpool and Manchester City in the battle for the fourth Champions League berth.

Crouch put Spurs ahead from close range after 27 minutes, and a deflected strike by Bentley on the hour mark sealed all three points.

Liverpool, who had beaten Spurs in their last match, failed to break down a resolute Wolves side, with an Albert Riera header that went wide and a mishit Steven Gerrard volley the closest they came to finding a winner.

In other matches, Bolton moved out of the bottom three with a 1-0 win over Burnley, while bottom side Portsmouth came from behind to draw 1-1 with West Ham. Despite the point, Portsmouth remain four points adrift at the foot of the table.
