Dutch winger Arjen Robben would have preferred a longer break between the end of the club season and the start of his World Cup preparations, the Algemeen Dagblad (AD) on Wednesday quoted him as saying.

“To be honest, it must make sense for me again to play football,” Robben told the AD . Robben and Mark van Bommel arrived at the Dutch training camp in Austria for next month’s World Cup on Tuesday, three days after losing the European Champions League final with Bayern Munich against Inter Milan. Inter’s Wesley Sneijder also arrived to complete the Dutch squad.

“On Monday I thought, lets say farewell from each other at the club, that is part of it. But then there was a light training as well. I have the feeling that the season continues in one go,” said Robben.

Van Bommel lamented the missed title treble with Munich but has his full focus on the World Cup.

“We have a goal with Oranje. That’s why you want to join the group as soon as possible,” said van Bommel.

Bert van Marwijk’s team was set to play a tune-up game against Mexico later on Wednesday. The Dutch are in Group E at the World Cup with Denmark, Cameroon and Japan.
