Houghton resigns after a bitter standoff with AIFF

The sad story of foreign coaches leaving Indian shores in acrimonious circumstances had one more chapter added to it on Saturday when Bob Houghton reached a “compromise” agreement with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to part ways with a team he had worked hard to develop and deliver since his appointment five years ago.

The AIFF had issued a show cause notice to Houghton on March 25 apart from conducting an inquiry through a committee. The committee had submitted its report, prompting the AIFF to look for an amiable path to settle the issue.

The AIFF was too happy to drop the charges and Houghton responded by submitting his resignation.
